  • Czechia will strive to ensure that EU decides to grant Croatia entry into the Shengen Area, Czech PM Petr Fiala said on Thursday after meeting with his Croatian counterpart Andrej Plenković in Prague. Plenković said that Croatia wants to enter the EU’s borderless zone in January 2023.


  • Interest in state rooftop solar power subsidies is growing. The Czech Environment Ministry already having registered more applications this year (34,544) than for the entire year of 2021.


  • Construction production in the Czech Republic slowed down year-on-year growth in May. It grew by 3.3 percent in real terms, down from 4.4 percent in April. Construction output also rose month-on-month by 0.4 percent.


  • Warner Bros Discovery announced this week that it would halt all local original productions for HBO Max in several European countries, including the Czech Republic. The move is part of global restructuring and cost-cutting scheme a few months after completing the WarnerMedia and Discovery merger.


  • PM Petr Fiala expressed himself in favour of the Czech Republic adopting an energy sector tax, that would be mainly aimed at energy companies, saying that “it would be an expression of solidarity at a time when many people are facing extremely high energy prices.”
