Four Czechs are among the nominees for the US Academy Awards (better known as the Oscars) this year: make-up artist Linda Eisenhamerova, special effect artists Viktor Muller and Kamil Jafar and sound mixer Viktor Prasil, all for their work on the film All Quiet on the Western Front. The nominations were released on Tuesday.

Due to rising energy prices and other expenses, Vodafone is forced to increase the prices of flat-rate mobile services. The operator’s representatives announced this on Wednesday, adding that the new price list will be effective for existing customers next month.

Agriculture Minister Zdeněk Nekula (KDU-ČSL) has called supermarket chains to explain their high sugar prices. He said they set high trade markups, which he considers immoral. The Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) announced this in a press release on Wednesday.They also advised their customers that they could save money by bundling services.

Over 100,000 new companies were set up in Czechia in 2022, the highest number recorded since 1994, according to the company Imper, which runs an online database of firms. Prague saw the most freshly established businesses, while the Karlovy Vary Region had the fewest.

Czech MPs have backed in the first reading a bill that would do away with over 10,000 laws, regulations and decrees that are formally in place but are no longer used. The minister of the interior, Vít Rakušan, said that this move would lead to more transparency in the country’s legal system.
