Twice a year, expats and other fans of softball have a chance to play ball and help an NGO raise money for education.
From October 2-3, 2021, heavy hitters and fun-seekers of all stripes will be invited to step up to the plate for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic at the annual Heavy Hitters Fundraising Softball Tournament.
Organised twice-annually for nearly 22 years by the Prague Peak Education Fund (PPEF), Prague’s largest co-ed charity softball tournament has been dedicated to raising funds for several educational activities in the Czech Republic, including Seminars for Teachers, Grab the Reader, Teachers Circles, and the Thomayer University Hospital’s school for long-term hospitalized children.
“I have been organizing the Heavy Hitters tournament for over 15 years,” related PPEF Director Simona Huitric, “and many organisations now rely on our support. I am very proud that we cooperate with such meaningful projects. We get to meet amazing people who do a terrific job with the funds raised by the tournament, and we see that our work makes sense.”
The PPEF relies on the support of not only participating teams but in-kind sponsorship for food and drinks sold during the weekend event.
Family-friendly and fun for all ages, participants can expect to enjoy all manner of refreshments, including hot dogs, burgers, burritos, bagels, and beer from local vendors.
In the past, the tournament has hosted teams from around the world, including the UK, Poland, Slovakia, Germany, Russia, and the UAE.
“This is my favorite event of the year,” claimed long-time participant Joe Mangarella. “I love meeting and competing with others from around the world in a fun and festive context.”
