More than 12,000 volunteers in yellow T-shirts will offer yellow flowers with blue ribbons and information leaflets on the prevention of cancer in the streets of 1,200 cities and municipalities throughout the country.
The annual fundraising event organized by the Czech League Against Cancer starts today at 11 AM also in the streets of Prague.
This year, the money will go toward kidney, bladder and prostate tumors.
“When choosing the theme of this year’s fundraising, we were guided mainly by the unfortunate fact that many more patients in the Czech Republic are diagnosed with prostate and kidney cancer than in other European countries. Let us draw particular attention to risky behavior, at the same time we call for people not to hesitate in case of difficulties and to visit a doctor without delay,” said Michaela Fridrichová, the chairwoman of the League Against Cancer.
The minimum price of a flower is 20 CZK, but any amount above that is very welcome and will be used for the support of various medical and research facilities, improving the quality of life of cancer patients, and informative campaigns to prevent the illness.
All donors will receive, together with the flower, a leaflet pointing out the dangers of tumor-related illnesses and summarizing recommendations for their prevention by means of a healthy lifestyle and simple preventative measures.
