Riverside is an international school in Prague which provides education for more than 500 students from over 40 nationalities. Many students come to Prague through their parents work or are from Czech families.
Riverside School opened in 1994 in a disused Czech School in Prague 6 alongside the Vltava River. By 2001 it had expanded from an Early Years and Primary School to offering education to the full age range from 3 to 18 years. Further expansion led to the creation of a separate Early Years School in 2009 in Bubenec and its Senior High School subsequently opened in Hradcanska in 2011.
In September 2015 the school opened Riverside Arts Centre in Hradcanska as an extension to the Senior High and to develop its Arts programme. Since 2014 the school has offered supported, high quality, independent living accommodation for its older students.
The school also has a Riverside Ranch in a mountain region which provides education in nature.
Riverside’s Skills for Life programme incorporates its extensive extra-curricular, outdoor pursuits and outdoor adventure initiatives. This involves students in sports such as golf, tennis and in line skating. Arts for Life and Musicians for Life has grown to provide an extensive theatrical and music programme through which each student in upper Primary and Junior High is provided with a musical instrument of choice with opportunities to engage in bands, ensembles and orchestra. The school has a media and recording studio through which students mix their music and video performance.
Riverside increasingly takes advantage of the proximity of the river to offer canoeing, kayaking, sailing and rowing. This extends further afield for water skiing and scuba diving. For rock climbing and orienteering.
The school’s academic programme is challenging and based on the British National Curriculum. Each student from the age of ten is provided with a personal laptop for use at home and school. Riverside commenced in 2009, the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Students increasingly achieve high grades and attend leading universities worldwide.
Such overall development has seen the school expand from 20 children in 1994 to 550 in 2017. The school uniform, popular in the lower grades is replaced by smart, professional attire in the Senior High, as students prepare to become future professionals and leaders in society.
While maintaining a Christian ethos since its inception, the school is inclusive of all abilities, backgrounds and faith, providing an open forum for freedom of ideas and self-expression.Through its educational philosophy and broad areas for opportunity the school prepares its students for employment and leisure activities in an ever changing and developing world.
