Czech Republic Confirms 2nd Coronavirus Death

The Czech Republic has recorded its second death from coronavirus, according to a statement.

“I’m very sorry to report the second death of coronavirus. The report came from the hospital in Havířov. The patient was 45 years old and lost the battle with cancer. Coronavirus worsened his condition. My condolences to his loved ones,” said in a tweet the Minister of Health Adam Vojtěch.

On Monday, 114 new coronavirus cases were confirmed, bringing the total number to 1236.

Six people have been cured of Covid-19, according to the Ministry of Health, and 17,377 people have been tested.

The number is expected to reach 3,000 by the end of March and 15,000 by the end of April.

The virus first emerged in Wuhan, China last December and has spread to at least 168 countries and territories. The World Health Organization has declared the outbreak a pandemic.

There are 381,598 confirmed cases worldwide and the death toll now tops 16,500, while over 101,000 people have recovered, according to U.S.-based Johns Hopkins University.
