July 25-30: Dive Into the Magical World of Circus with ‘Senses’

Cirk La Putyka and Finnish director Maksim Komaro are celebrating the essence of circus in their latest performance, “Senses.”

This captivating production combines various circus disciplines and theatrical genres, such as aerial and ground acrobatics, teeterboard jumps, juggling, pantomime, contemporary dance, magic, clowning, and object work.

With nine performers and contributions from Finnish creators, including choreographer Ilona Jäntti and lighting designer Juho Rahijärvi, “Senses” captures the free, playful, funny, and imaginative nature of the circus.

The music is composed by Jan Balcar, and costumes and makeup are designed by Kristina Záveská.

Director Maksim Komaro, who began collaborating with Cirk La Putyka in 2011, explains, “with ‘Senses,’ I continue to celebrate the circus itself—a realm that is free, constantly in motion, indescribable yet beautiful and amusing.”

The show does not have a specific theme; instead, it focuses on the essence of the circus on stage. The Jatka78 stage, under Komaro’s direction, showcases the talented members of the Cirk La Putyka ensemble: Šárka Fülep Bočková, Adéla Míšková, Helena Nováčková, Michal Boltnar, Daniel Komarov, Jiří Weissmann, Filip Zahradnický, Valentin Verdure, and alternately, Jiří Kohout and Adam Joura.

Attentive viewers will recognize references to circus history throughout the performance. “I don’t expect the audience to consciously notice them, but they are subtly woven into the show. Its contemporary form allows seamless transitions between different circus genres,” adds Maxim Komaro.

Audiences can anticipate thrilling aerial and ground acrobatics, teeterboard jumps, mime, contemporary dance, clowning, juggling, stilt walking, visual and object theater, magic, and music.

“My intention is for the audience to leave with a joyous and inspired mindset. To believe that art and love are positive forces that distinguish us from animals and that we must cherish them. I hope the audience joins us in celebrating the power of imagination and creativity,” concludes Maksim Komaro.

“Cirk La Putyka: Senses” is a 65-minute performance suitable for ages 6 and up, without any language barriers.

It will be showcased from July 25-30, 2023, at Jatka78 in Prague.
