President Milos Zeman will convoke the session of the new Chamber of Deputies for November 8 and then outgoing Chamber chairman Radek Vondracek will call its constituent meeting for the same day. Vondracek said he was informed about the president’s health condition, but could just generally state it was improving.

The Pirates group in the Chamber of Deputies will continue to be headed by Jakub Michalek, with Olga Richterova, the party’s deputy chairwoman, as his deputy. After the weekend general election, the Pirates deputy group was dwarfed from 22 to four lawmakers.

1,534 new cases of Covid-19 were recorded in the Czech Republic on Thursday, around 550 more than the same day last week. The number of people in hospitals with the virus rose to 448, with 80 of those patients in critical condition.

India is set to reopen its borders to overseas travellers as it relaxes Covid-related restrictions amid a drop in daily infections. Starting Friday, the country will grant tourist visas to travellers arriving on chartered flights. The facility will be extended to those arriving on commercial flights from 15 November.

Poland’s parliament has passed a law allowing border guards to immediately expel migrants who cross the border illegally. Guards will also be given power to refuse applications for international asylum, without examination.
