  • The European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) has ranked the Czech Republic in the bottom fifth of EU member states on its latest Gender Equality Index.

  • The government is preparing a criminal complaint on suspicion of fraud due to the termination of the activities of the Bohemia Energy energy group. The company ceased operations in mid-October and has around 900,000 customers looking for a new energy supplier.

  • Beer production for domestic pubs and restaurants grew by 2% y/y in September 2021. Beer from tanks increased by more than 4.5%, while the output of mini kegs rose by 2.3% and that of classic kegs by 1.8%. The Czech Beer and Malt Association reported that the total beer output fell by almost 5.6%.

  • A Czech model who was jailed for eight years in Pakistan for trying to smuggle £1million of heroin into Ireland has been cleared on appeal, her lawyer has revealed.  Tereza Hluskova, 25, was arrested in possession of 8.5kg of heroin in January 2018 at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport.

  • Mandatory coronavirus testing in Czech schools will expand by a further 23 districts next week, the government announced on Monday, to 31 districts in total.
