Iranian human rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh awarded Václav Havel Human Rights Prize

Nasrin Sotoudeh, an Iranian human rights lawyer and activist, has been awarded this year’s Václav Havel Human Rights Prize, the Council of Europe announced on Monday. She is known for defending activists, journalists, minorities and people facing execution in Iran, and has repeatedly been arrested and imprisoned for her work.

Martin Nečas becomes highest-paid Czech NHL player

Martin Nečas of the Colorado Avalanche will be the highest-paid Czech hockey player in NHL history this season, earning 14 million US dollars. The 27-year-old forward will rank 12th among all NHL players by salary. Nečas signed an eight-year, 92-million-dollar contract with Colorado last October.

Tram disruptions in central Prague due to track repairs

Tram services have been suspended across part of central Prague as the city's public transport operator (DPP) carries out track repairs in Spálená and Národní streets and on Vítězná Street near Újezd. The disruption affects the section between the Újezd and Lazarská stops. No replacement bus service has been introduced. The works are scheduled to continue until Monday, August 10.
