The retrospective “Koudelka: Returning”, a cross-section of the photographer Josef Koudelka’s work, is being held at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague to mark his eightieth birthday and runs until September 22.
The exhibition is chronologically organized into seven chapters, according to individual thematic cycles. About 400 works which he donated to this museum form the backbone of the exhibition.
It includes all of the well-known series of Koudelka’s work so far (Beginnings, Experiments, Theatre, Gypsies, Invasion 68, Exiles, and Panoramas).
Prominently featured will be photos of the August 1968 Soviet Invasion of Czechoslovakia, along with original pictures and documentary materials from Josef Koudelka’s archive.
Josef Koudelka undoubtedly belongs to the most important contemporary personalities of the world photography, is classified as humanistic documentary photography, although it is difficult to place this prominent personality anywhere
