As part of the Smart City project, the leadership of Prague has approved the installation of 10 benches equipped with solar panels to charge smartphones and WiFi to connect to the Internet.

As part of the same project, the leadership of Prague has approved the installation of 30 “smart” waste containers that would notify trash collectors when they are full and need to be emptied.

Benches will be in the city center as well as Žižkov, Vinohrady, Holešovice and Prague 8.

Benches and containers are part of a pilot project. If enough residents use them — and they survive cold winter temperatures and potential vandals — then additional benches may pop up in more of Prague’s public parks and spaces.
