A higher number of tourists are visiting the Czech Republic in recent years. According to director of the agency CzechTourism Monika Palatková, about 10 million foreign tourists visited the country in 2017.
Tourists travel more and more to the regions, although the main attraction and interest is still Prague. Tourism from places such as India, China, South Korea increased almost 30-50 percent.
Prague hotels are booked most of the year. According to Minister for Regional Development Klara Dostálová (for ANO), foreign tourists do travel beyond Prague, but only for day trips. "They need to prepare special programs to spend two or three nights out of Prague," said Dostálová.
Though touristic, Prague is still not crowded as Venice or Barcelona, where local people have problems with tourists. Yet, the occupancy of hotels is considered alarming. "We are intensively dedicated to benefiting tourists and incentives to not overburden Prague," said Dostálová.
2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Czechoslovakia: "Partners ask what the events, celebrations will be about. It will be a theme that will resonate globally," said Palatkova, who expects especially high interest of Slovak tourists.
