To combat the increased crime rates during the festive season, Czech police are preparing to intensify security measures. There will be more officers on the streets in crowded areas.

Due to the annual increased levels of crime, the police advise that people should be wary of theft, fraudulent emails scams and fake charity collections.

"As with similar holidays in the past, policemen will be more visible, and where it is appropriate or more needed, they will have weapons," said Prague Police Chief, Martin Vondrášek, said at a press conference.

Police will pay particular attention to increasing their presence around airports, train stations, as well as Christmas markets and cultural events.
