Ester Ledecká of Czech Republic wins surprise gold in Olympic super-G; mistake costs Lindsey Vonn a medal.

Ledecka, the 26th racer to take the course, blazed through the course in a time of 1 minute, 21.11 seconds. Defending champion Anna Veith of Austria earned the silver, finishing 0.01 seconds back, and Tina Weirather of Liechtenstein captured bronze.

Ledecka's run shocked even the 22-year-old, who also is a snowboarder. Shortly after finishing and seeing her time, she asked, "How did that happen?"

American Lindsey Vonn, who went out first but made a mistake before the final jump and finished sixth, was stunned along with the rest of her rivals.

"It's definitely shocking. In the Olympics a lot of weird things happen," said the 33-year-old, who will have another chance to become the oldest female medallist in Olympic Alpine skiing in her favored downhill on the same mountain next week.
