Gebretsadik Abraha won the Prague International Marathon Sunday to lead an Ethiopian sweep while Valary Jemeli Aiyabei of Kenya was the fastest woman and set a race record.

Abraha was trailing Bazu Worku with two kilometers to go but came back to pull away in the last kilometer and complete the race in 2 hours, 8 minutes and 47 seconds. Aiyabei won in 2:21:57.

“I’m very happy, the course was very difficult,” Abraha said.

Worku finished second, one second behind the winner while Mekuant Ayenew was third in 2:09:00.

Aiyabei went ahead shortly after the start and cruised to victory, with four Kenyan runners behind her. Amane Beriso was second, 18 seconds back and Tadelech Bekele placed third.

About 10,600 runners participated in the 23rd edition of the race.
