5 things I love about Prague: art, food and feelings.

Magical, wonderful, charming... how many visitors fall in love with Prague every day?

[:en]The history, the architecture, the girls… what are the things that you like the most about our beautiful Praha? Listed below you find my very own.

Number five:  public transportation. Sorry, I know it’s not romantic, but it’s true. The public transportation, Dpp, is so convenient and works so well that is impossible not to fall in love with it. The prices (for residents) are fair and it’s easy to buy tickets everywhere. Personally I like the fact that there is a lot of Police on the trams and at the metro stations. It makes me feel safe.

Number four: Mala Strana. I absolutely love the architecture of Prague and among my favorite things, there should be the buildings, the churches, the streets and squares who have seen so much history and people passing by. The church of St. Nicholas and the tiny alleys underneath Prague Castle simply make me feel good. Of course I like the more when there are not too many people, but it’s easy: Sunday morning before 11, there is never anybody around!

Number three:the changing of the seasons. I find the weather not to be the best feature of Prague, but I really enjoy the changing of the seasons here. Spring and Autumn are slow and very long compared to my native country where it’s hot and then cold. In Prague the trees have time to change colors or bloom for weeks. I am very looking forward for the next red/gold Autumn in Prague.

Number two: the wide variety of international cuisines. I have a theory: Czech cuisine it’s a bit heavy. Therefore expats and Czechs have opened their minds and mouths to something lighter. You can dive every night in a restaurant with different stile of cuisine, if you wish. My favorite (at the moment) are Vietnamese, Italian and Burgers! Of course I adore Czech beer and when I travel, I miss it a lot.

The winner is… the unbearable lightness of being. I have mixed feelings about the Czechs and their approach to life, but after some years in Prague I am starting to appreciate the lightness of their thoughts. They are never dramatic, rarely depressed and often negative. Nevertheless they laugh a lot and always find a way to forget about tomorrow and the world outside. I love this!
