Czech employees will be entitled to sick pay in the first three days of sickness most likely from July, as previously approved, as the lower house rejected the opposition Civic Democrats' (ODS) proposal to postpone the measure until the new electronic sick notes are fully operating.
The Labour and Social Affairs Ministry has been promising the e-sick notes since January. The ODS says the government and the ministry had failed and had been incapable of getting the system to be ready on time. The e-sick notes have caused tension in the ANO-Social Democrat (CSSD) ruling coalition.
Employers had been promised that the system would be put in practice together with the sick pay in the first three days of sickness in July. But lawmakers are not expected to debate the bill until May.
The wage compensation currently paid from the 4th to the 14th day of sickness is paid by the employer at the rate of three-fifths of the average daily earnings. During the first three days now, the employees will now receive 60 percent of the daily base.
From the 15th day of illness, insurance benefits will continue to be provided. Employers, on the other hand, can reduce their contributions by 0.2 percentage points.
