Hundreds of used black plastic chairs cover the facade of this furniture shop, which architecture studio Chybik + Kristof has created inside a former car showroom in Brno.

Each of the individual chairs are attached to a steel structure that covers the building’s original facade. They’re removed once or twice a year when the building needs cleaning.

Chybik and Kristof used the seats from 900 generic black plastic seats – costing around 80 CZK each – to create the cladding.

The look is sculptural and modern, while also being playful and informative: “We are a young studio and we think all our designs should be a bit funny,” Ondrej Chybik, a co-founder of Chybik + Kristof, told Dezeen. “But in a smart way of sharing information about the building’s programmatic function.”

The thematic building is situated on the outskirts of Vinohrady, a housing estate built in Brno in the early 1980s.
