Americká Street connects with the intersection of the streets of Na Kleovce, Koperníkova and Machovo in the beautiful Prague district of Vinohrady.

The street was founded in 1884 and was named after the Czech writer and publisher Václav Matěj Krameri. Václav was one of the most early important figures of the Czech National Revival.

The current name for the street was established in 1926. The name ‘American’ refers to the United States of America, as a member of the coalition that defeated Austria-Hungary, Germany and their allies in the First World War. Prague was grateful to America for their help and the street commemorates this period.
